A
rescue team gathers at Jeanesville on Feb. 4, 1891 after the Jeanesville
Mine Disaster claimed 13 lives. The miners drowned when a blast sent water
from an abandoned gangway into the cavern where they worked. Four survivors
were found barely alive 19 days later in what was described as a miracle
rescue.
